The University of Memphis Society (UMS) is an academic support unit founded in 1952. Its purpose is to support scholastic welfare and activities by providing assistance in refining and improving acadcemic programs and in attracting outstanding faculty and students. This is done through the US Speaker's Bureau, interacting with The UofM admissions office, providing funding for various projects, and interacting with legislators and the public. US funds the Educator of the year Award, a recognition honoring a professional educator who has given distinguished service (past or present) to the field of education.
